The Red Dragonflies’ Christmas meeting and Ginko, 2017. Report by Margaret Mahony.

The Red Dragonflies’ Christmas Meeting and Ginko was held on the 2nd December, 2017 at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Sydney, led by Vanessa Proctor. Also attending were Barbara Fisher, Beverley George, Cynthia Rowe, Dawn Bruce, Willem Tibben and two guests Carol Reynolds and Margaret Mahony from Discovery Writers and the newly formed Illawong Haiku Group.

We met at the Botanic Gardens Café for coffee around 11am and read two haiku we’d each written relating to Christmas and Gardens. After we discussed and critiqued these we took off on our own through the gardens taking notes in order to write sensory haiku. We also visited the Calyx where there was a wonderful display on Pollination which was a delight to any haiku lover.

Around 1pm we gathered for a celebratory lunch at the Botanic Gardens Restaurant. Each of us put two haiku anonymously in a bowl and chose one at a time to discuss and enjoy.

We said our goodbyes around 3pm after a happy and fruitful day.
