Paperbark Winter Ginko, Boorloo Perth

Paperbark Haiku

25 August 2023

It was a perfect day for a winter ginko in Boorloo Perth: sunny and cloudless, a balmy 24 degrees. How lucky we are to have such glorious winter days! Some of us gathered at the ferry terminal on Elizabeth Quay at ten o’clock to catch the ferry across the Derbal Yirrigan Swan River to South Perth, where others were waiting. We totalled seven, which made us very pleased, as we have been promoting ginko. Our usual event advertising via Facebook has now been augmented with an email list for those who don’t use this social media platform.

We felt very much like tourists in our own city.  A lot of toddlers, their parents and real tourists were on the ferry on their way to the zoo in South Perth. When we arrived we discovered the area to be crowded and coffee shops filled to the brim. We found a not-so-quiet spot on the seats of a closed pub next to a noisy road and surrounded by high rise construction. Still, we managed to have a vigorous discussion about four-line haiku, deciding to agree to disagree.

We were able to find a quieter spot to regather after the walk to review our ginko haiku, some of which had a distinctly urban feel.
