Haiku Window- International Haiku Day

Haiku fans Debra Caswell and Rosa Newton prepare their words to add to the window .

The poets of Watersmeet celebrated International Haiku Day on Wednesday 17th April by creating a window of haiku at Fullers Bookshop in Hobart. Fullers generously made space in the front of the shop, pushing back shelves and placing a table just inside the window where we spread a collection of haiku books for people to browse. The staff provided us with A5 size cards, the border designed by Ron Moss, on which we wrote our own or a favourite haiku. These we taped to the window for passers-by to read. A similar event held in 2006 was “Haiku Grafffiti” where we wrote on the shop windows – because of the time it took to clean the windows back then, it was decided to use cards this time. International Haiku Day with Watersmeet

The haiku poets of Watersmeet will be creating a window of haiku at Fullers Bookshop in Collins Street Hobart to celebrate International Haiku Day, on Wednesday 17th April. Come along between 11.00 am and 3.00 pm to view the haiku and, if you feel inspired, add your own creations to the window display. Everyone welcome!

Marking the Moment – workshop

Capture and record a moment from nature through haiku and mark making to create a visual expression of a sensory experience. Join poet Lyn Reeves and local artist Desiree Fitzgibbon for walking and observation in the stunning environment of Okines Beach.

At the end of this workshop we will have uncovered the features of the brief nature poem and composed our own haiku and brush work images depicting a special moment in time on a handmade paper scroll. Continue reading “Marking the Moment – workshop”

Small Worlds – new haiku from Lyn Reeves

Small Worlds is a book/catalogue of paintings in an exhibition by Hobart painter, Luke Wagner. Each of fifteen paintings of bonsai is accompanied by a haiku by Lyn, in a limited edition, beautifully presented hard cover publication. The book was launched at the exhibition opening on the 5th March and is available from the gallery and from Hobart Bookshop.

Hobart Workshops: The Art of Haiku

Fullers’ Cafe Poet, Lyn Reeves, will hold a series of haiku workshops at Fullers Bookshop in Hobart.

10.00am – 11.30am, Saturdays 17th August – 14th September

Explore the traditions and contemporary practice of these ‘capsules of poetic insight’ in a series of four workshops, followed by a ginko (haiku walk) in St. David’s Park. This course is aimed at people with an interest, but little or no knowledge of these brief but potent poems.

Haiku News from Tasmania (five items)

Lyn Reeves has a number of her haiku featured in a new exhibition of paintings by Desiree Fitzgibbon. Codex – opens at Handmark Gallery, Salamanca Place, Hobart on 23 April and runs until 19 May. Lyn will read her haiku at the opening.
