It’s time to start thinking about what you can contribute to Haiku Down Under 2024. The organising team is seeking proposals for online workshops, presentations and other activities aligned to our theme of A Sensory Journey. We encourage new and experienced presenters to submit proposals that will offer something fresh and vibrant to the trans-Tasman haiku community. Although we expect to have audience members from around the world, we want to offer new and established haiku writers in Australia and New Zealand a programme that focuses on their experiences, environments, languages and cultures.
What aspects of crafting haiku fascinate you? What aspects do you find most challenging? What knowledge or experiences of the ‘way of haiku’ could you share with others? Which poems and poets have moved or influenced you most? What do you wish you’d known when you first started out with haiku? What topics would you most like to explore at Haiku Down Under 2024?
The programming of the conference will be based around the proposals submitted. Haiku Down Under is a ‘hands on’ event for and by haiku writers. Whether or not you are a seasoned presenter, you can help make it the gathering you want to experience by submitting a proposal for the workshop, presentation or other activity you’d like to present.
While the bulk of proposals we receive will likely focus on haiku, we are also open to senryu, linked forms, haibun, haiga, tanka and other cross-genre art forms, so please consider those topics too.
If you are unsure about putting forward your idea, please reach out to us with your questions before submitting – via our Contact Us page.
You will find further information on the Call for Proposals page on our website, where there is a ‘Submit your Proposal’ button that will take you to the confidential proposal form.
The deadline for making a proposal is 5pm (your time) on November 30, 2023.
The conference will take place online via Zoom over the weekend of August 16-18, 2024. To be notified of updates, please subscribe to our email list via the Contact Us page, and/or follow our Facebook page.
