Thursday 30 November 2023
There were six of us present: our convener Carol Reynolds, Ros Pitt, Rita Potente, Alison Miller, Patricia Meredith and Margaret Mahony, for the meeting held in Carol’s home.
We started with morning tea under the sail in the garden, where we shared each others’ haiku news and proceeded to discuss our prepared exercise of commentary on a haiku by Peggy Willis Lyles from The Haiku Foundation’s “re:Virals” 424 of November 10, 2023:
‘traffic jam
my small son asks
who made God’
It was very interesting to hear each one’s comments, all varied.
We then wrote some haiku on our surroundings taking in the senses we were exposed to and had fun reading them.
About midday we retired for lunch which included some festive fare. Then continued with three haiku each to read and discuss, mostly from other poets we admired and some of our own.
No one was in a hurry to leave so we carried on chatting and planning for the year ahead. Wishing everyone a very happy and safe Christmas, we said our goodbyes.
