Help Steer the Australian Haiku Society

Calling for Expressions of Interest to join the Executive Committee

The Australian Haiku Society is calling on Australian haiku poets to submit expressions of interest to serve in several positions on the Society’s Executive Committee. The Executive Committee is responsible for the administration of the Society so that it can fulfill its mission. The Society exists to promote and support English-language haiku in Australia and encourage the enjoyment of this poetic form in the Australian community.

Renewal of Office Bearer positions takes place every four years. A casual vacancy may occur from time to time, which may be filled by someone who has previously expressed interest in the role. Besides the Office Bearer positions who form the Executive Committee, additional members with relevant experience and expertise may be appointed to the Executive Committee from time-to-time to undertake designated tasks, as well as contribute to strategy, planning and decision-making that supports the society in its mission. An Assistant may also be appointed to a specific role to help with the smooth administration of certain Society functions.

The positions for which we are currently calling for Expressions of Interest are:
Office Bearers:
1. President
2. Vice-President
3. Secretary
4. Assistant Web Manager
and
5. non-Office Bearer: Executive Committee Member.

All of these are part-time roles that typically require a commitment of no more than 1-2 hours per week, and less than 10 hours per month.

Some general eligibility criteria apply to be able to serve as an Office Bearer and/or Executive Committee Member of the Australian Haiku Society. We are seeking Australian citizens and permanent residents who are currently actively practising haiku poets. What we mean by ‘actively practising’ is that, as a minimum, you compose original haiku and your haiku are published in journals or collections edited by others.

If you think you might like to submit an Expression of Interest for one or more roles, please contact the current Secretary (using the Contact Secretary form). The Secretary can provide role descriptions, as well as a set of prompts to help frame your submission, and respond to any other questions you may have. Submissions of Expressions of Interest are open until 12pm AEDT Monday 26th February 2024.
