Summer, February
Cloudcatchers Ginko No. 76 was held in Pop Denison Park, Ballina and as a Virtual Ginko. Norma Watts and Laurel Astle were at the park, while Angela Smith, Vivien Royston, Quendryth Young, and Robyn Braithwaite participated virtually.
The night before the Cloudcatchers’ Summer Ginko, there was an electrical storm, with dramatic thunder, lightning, and quite a bit of rain. Should we cancel? Two of our members braved the elements and were rewarded with
enough fine weather to enjoy a period of silence, observation and writing.
They met at Pop Denison Park in Ballina, situated on an estuary of the Richmond River, on the far north coast of New South Wales. They then lunched together in town.
Meanwhile the other four participants held silence, each in her own home, and captured what they could in impressions from their surroundings and the elements. And they wrote. A Round Robin followed, when each haiku contributed from the day was circulated for comment via email. The completed document was then shared with all participants.
