Cloudcatchers’ Winter Ginko No. 78

Cloudcatchers

Piccabeen Park, Bangalow, NSW

Cloudcatchers held the winter ginko at Piccabeen Park, at Bangalow, on the far north coast of NSW, on Thursday 14th August.  The group has held many ginko here over the years, but this title for the park is new – now named for the palm species local to the area. One haiku reported an old rope dangling over the creek, waiting for another summer, another commented on all the toddlers taking over a heritage park.

The area has recently been upgraded in many ways, one being the installation of a Rock Ramp Fishway. This was constructed in the local creek, so that the fish can go upstream to spawn, while the water continues to flow down through the park.

Five poets delighted in the sunny winter day and the revitalised park environment, where mothers and their toddlers enjoyed the swings and grassy stretches. First we shared haiku recently written with a winter theme, and also news of publication, before wandering and writing to our hearts’ content.

Lunch was savoured at the ‘Bangalow Pub’ – a popular feature in the middle of the town. Here, at the last minute, we remembered to snap a selfie. Robbie Braithwaite, Quendryth Young, Norma Watts and Vivienne Royston. [Angela Smith, who wrote with us, had another engagement.]

A Round Robin, of three haiku each from the day, has been circulated requesting comments from participants, and is now completed and ready for re-distribution.
