Limestone Tanka Poets

Although our Blackburn Homestead retreat was cancelled for last weekend, 20th – 22nd April, due to the lack of rain, seven Limestone Tanka Poets (Carmel Summers, Gerry Jacobson, Glenys Ferguson, Liz Lanigan, Michelle Brock, Michael Thorley, and myself) met regardless. We are thankful to Michelle Brock for hosting this meeting at her home at the last minute and for the kilometers Glenys (from Yass) and Michael (from Tamworth) travelled to attend this meeting. Bowerbird Tanka Group meeting # 18

On 17th March 2018, fifteen poetry lovers were welcomed by Beverley George to her home in beautiful Pearl Beach. This was the first Bowerbird meeting of the year and the eighteenth in the series. Many delegates travel long distances, to be present at these meetings, to appreciate and be inspired on their tanka journey.

The morning opened with presentations from three members: Jo Tregellis, followed by Hazel Hall and M.L. Grace. Each had chosen a tanka by someone they had not met but whose tanka they had read and admired. Each shared their response to the poem and focused on the aspects that appealed to them. Bowerbird Tanka Group meeting # 17 November 25, 2017

It was a delight to welcome 14 Bowerbird members to “Wirraminna,” our home in Pearl Beach, on Saturday 25th 2017. Present were Dy Andreasen, Carolyn Eldridge-Alfonzetti, Beverley George, Margaret (ML) Grace, Gail Hennessy, Marilyn Humbert, Julianne Jameson, Karen Lieversz, Kent Robinson, Catherine Smith, Michael Thorley, Julie Thorndyke, Jo Tregellis and Beatrice Yell.

After a brief welcome and the chance to enjoy a cuppa following the long drives involved in getting here, our workshop opened with appraisals of favourite tanka written by someone whom the presenter had never met.

Eucalypt eNewsletter July 2017

Bowerbird Tanka Group meeting #16 March 11, 2017

The 16th Bowerbird Tanka Group Meeting was a lively one, enhanced by David Terelinck’s presentation on combining tanka with photographic art.  A report by Carmel Summers and appraisals of favourite tanka presented by Dy Andreasen, Carol Judkins and Catherine Smith are available here. Carmel’s report includes information on the activities of other tanka groups. This shared information is included in every Bowerbird meeting.

Eucalypt Anthology Book Launch and New Editor

On the morning of February 18th 2017, the upstairs room in the Children’s Bookshop at Beecroft, Sydney, was abuzz with the voices of sixty people who had come together to celebrate two very special events.

The first, was the launch of A Temple Bell Sounds, a commemorative anthology of 108 tanka from the first twenty-one issues of Eucalypt: a tanka journal, selected by the journal’s founding editor Beverley George.  Beverley had, over several weeks, read and reread each issue comprising 2576 poems and lovingly put together a beautifully crafted anthology of fine work, honed by 108 poets over ten years Continue reading “Eucalypt Anthology Book Launch and New Editor”
