Illawong Haiku Group

December 2022

On a beautiful summer morning at Joseph Banks Native Plant Reserve, Kareela, six of us gathered, including our new member, Joy Bye, who was warmly welcomed by Carol Reynolds, Alison Miller, Pat Meredith, Rita Potente and Margaret Mahony. We missed Ros Pitt, who was unable to attend.

We had the Reserve to ourselves so chose a table in the shady picnic area. As it was the festive season we exchanged seasonal tokens and shared morning tea and lunch time goodies.

Anonymous haiku written by members other than the judges were read during our morning tea.  Rita’s haiku was declared the winner by Carol and I and she was duly awarded a chocolate.

For the bowl, everyone brought two haiku each with names supplied. We discussed these poems over lunch.

In keeping with the party mood, we played some word games again, with prizes and plenty of jollity.

Plans were discussed for next year, with a workshop for our new and ongoing members. We parted about 1pm with greetings to each other and our families and a shared enthusiasm for haikuing together in 2023.
