Prior Announcement: AHS Summer Haiga Kukai 2023

The Australian Haiku Society will hold a Haiga Kukai for the Summer Equinox occurring this year in Australia on 22nd  December. Once again, Ron C. Moss has generously provided two images (Seasonal and Non-seasonal), which will be displayed on the AHS website from 22nd December to midnight on 29th December AEST. For each competition, poets will be invited to submit one previously unpublished haiku inspired by the image. Ron will then select the winning haiku, which will be displayed on the AHS website.

Urasenke Sydney Haiku Collaboration

(In)visible Libraries event in Melbourne 30/11 – 02/12/2023

Performance artist and Fellow of the State Library of Victoria, Leisa Shelton, is working on a project for an exhibition ‘(In)visible Libraries’ that includes small hand-made books of haiku from Under the Same Moon alongside their translation into Braille. The first of these features urban haiku. Poets whose work has been selected are Olivia Ark, Gavin Austin, Dawn Bruce, Jane Gibian, Louise Hopewell, Jayashri Maniyil, Maurice Nevile and Lyn Reeves.  There is a readers’ corner where people can access these books. Cloudcatchers’ Spring Ginko (No. 71)

DATE: Thursday 9 November
PLACE: Bicentennial Park, Ballina
TIME: 10 am

The weatherman had a lot of trouble deciding what our day would bring, but all was well. There were blue skies, not too hot, and a new venue to be explored at the Bicentennial Park in Ballina, with picnic facilities along with some first-growth coastal forest.

Haiku @ The Oaks, Canberra

So, an inside day it is.  Just four of us to lunch—Gregory Piko, Glenys Ferguson, Marietta McGregor and Jan Dobb—our thoughts turning to missing chums, Kathy Kituai and Hazel Hall.

The Melbourne Launch of under the same moon: Fourth Australian Haiku Anthology will be held at the Melbourne Athenaeum Theatre Library, Saturday 11 November, 3pm-5pm.
