Haiku @ The Oaks, Canberra

Tuesday 12 April 2022

Due to one thing and another, only three of us found ourselves @ The Oaks this time—Marietta McGregor, Glenys Ferguson, and Jan Dobb. Our thoughts were with our missing three—Hazel Hall, Kathy Kituai, and Greg Piko—as we settled around a small table beneath the autumn trees.

Marietta produced some copies of the attractive American haiku journal Akitsu Quarterly, till now unknown to Glenys and Jan. A browse through these soon led on to conversation with Marietta about her task as guest editor of THF ‘Haiku Dialogue’, and she was keen to express to us the stimulation of reading all the submissions and the satisfaction of readers’ feedback. An exacting and constant project that Marietta excels at.

Echidna Tracks Issue 9 Submission Reminder

Issue 9 of Echidna Tracks: Australian Haiku: will focus on the theme of Journeys. These may relate to journeys near and far, within and without. They might pertain to geographical travels, trips abroad, down memory lane or into interesting reaches of mind and imagination. They might be shared or personal, brief or lifelong. Share the sights, sounds and scents… stir our thoughts and feelings, take us somewhere intriguing— move us, because the journey has been, or is, a moving one for you…

The submission period for Issue 9 will be open throughout April 2022. Please carefully read the guidelines on the Submissions page and submit your haiku via the Submissions Form.

Previous issues can be accessed through the Echidna Tracks website.

White Pebbles, Autumn 2022

March 2022

Despite rain making driving difficult for the majority of members who travel long distances, seven of us and a welcome return visitor met up to greet each other cheerfully at Gosford/Edogawa Commemorative Gardens and Regional Gallery on March 19th. How good it was to be together in person.  Present were Marilyn Humbert, Samantha Hyde, Gwen Bitti, Gail Hennessy, Maire Glacken, Colleen Keating and Beverley George, and guest Michael Thorley. Unfortunately Kent Robinson was unable to join us this time and we very much look forward to seeing him in June.

It was an individual choice whether to ginko in the garden or the gallery and before too long we had clustered at the round table in our quiet meeting room. And here we are.

left to right: Michael, Beverley, Colleen, Marilyn, Samantha, Gwen, Gail, Maire
