Summer Solstice Haiga Kukai
The Australian Haiku Society Summer Solstice Haiga Kukai for 2019 has concluded and selections by Ron Moss have been made and will be announced soon. Thank you so much to everyone who took part. And thanks again to Ron for creating the images and for judging the competition, our gratitude is ongoing. The twenty-first Bowerbird Tanka group meeting was celebrated on 30th November 2019, in the Crommelin Arboretum at Pearl Beach. Again it was heart-warming to note how far poets will travel to explore and share the poetic genre of tanka.
In addition to a presentation by Michael Thorley on shasei, and a ginko relevant to this, appraisals by three poets of a tanka they particularly enjoy, written by someone they have not met were shared and helped us to explore the more distant national scene as well as the international one.

On Saturday the 14th of December the White Pebbles Haiku Group met at the Gosford/Edogawa Commemorative Gardens for a summer ginko and lunch.

The Akita Haiku Network have sent an invitation for our members to submit to the 2019 Akita International Haiku Contest. Details and submission form can be found here. The results from last years contest can be found in Serow, Volume 2 (opening as a PDF). You may send one original, unpublished haiku on the theme of Impermanence / Change. Deadline 31st December.
Out on a Limb
A collaboration, two years in the making, between haiku poet Rose van Son and multi-media artists Denise Gillies and Lynne Mitchell has culminated in a stunning exhibition on the theme of nature at the Zig Zag Gallery in Kalamunda, Western Australia. The opening of the exhibition, Out on a Limb, was held on the 16th of November 2019 and remains open until the 8th of December.
