confluence haiku journal : call for submissions
submissions open 15 June to 15 July 2024.

confluence offers haiku poets a unique opportunity to showcase a representative selection of their work and to collaborate with other poets. Each issue of the journal will feature 1 to 2 poets and publish a representative sample (at least 15 poems) of the selected poet’s work along with critical commentary by other poets. Selected poets are also invited to participate in collaborative writing activities and be published in an year-end anthology. The editors intend to promote confluence widely in non-haiku poetry circles, so that selected poets may have their work read and appreciated by a more general readership.
Submissions open 15 June, 2024 and will be accepted through 15 July, 2024. confluence is edited by Ryland Shengzhi Li, Antoinette Cheung, and Aidan Castle. To learn more about the journal and to submit, please visit our website.

This collection is important because we aim at our regional group of haiku writers and present haiku that reflect our identity. Although we publish haiku with our distinctive flora and fauna, it is not about Australian animals. It is about our experience of living in Australia and our experience of life from our point of view. Australia is a vibrant, cosmopolitan and multicultural nation, and we strive to reflect that.

Seeking ‘rhubarb’ poems for public display
Jenny Macaulay, of the Portarlington Haiku Society, is offering a unique opportunity. The Bellarine Historical Society (Victoria) is holding a fundraising day (expected to be 6th July) called ‘Rhubarb Rhubarb.’ It involves a baking competition, including relish/chutney, etc and an art competition for local artists. In amongst the exhibits Jenny would like to display haiku related to rhubarb and is calling for contributions. The haiku will be displayed along with the author’s name. It is purely for fun, and to promote haiku awareness.
If you have rhubarb haiku you’d like to contribute, please use the AHS Contact Secretary form to be put in touch with Jenny by email.
