White Pebbles Winter Ginko at The Gosford / Edogawa Commemorative Gardens

Saturday 10th of June 2023

A superb, sunny winter’s day greeted us at the Edogawa Gardens on Saturday morning.

We gathered for greetings and a cuppa at the cafe adjacent to the Gosford Regional Gallery.

Beverley George, Maire Glacken and Kent Robinson were present. Only an unusually small gathering this long weekend, yet it gave us time to enjoy the beautifully tended Japanese gardens and reflect upon haiku together. Apologies were received from Michael Thorley, Samantha Sirimanne Hyde, Gwen Bitti, Marilyn Humbert, Verna Rieschild and Colleen Keating.

Water splashed upon sun-warmed stone and the laughter of delighted children brightened the atmosphere of the gardens as they fed the resident ducks, which swum among a myriad koi carp.

After our ginko, we gathered about the round table in the secluded niche we retire to in order to review our haiku that we’d composed in the garden. And to ponder a worksheet which had been sent to White Pebbles by Marilyn Humbert who is currently journeying around Australia.

Marilyn’s worksheet was entitled “Travel Haiku” and urged us to write in real time to capture the moment and to use all our senses; sight, sound, scent, feel and taste to inspire the creation of haiku.

We concluded our session around lunchtime after a fine, productive morning.
