It has been another prosperous year for Australian haiku and I would like to take this opportunity to thank all poets for their poetry, company, comradeship and countless other contributions throughout the year. Australian haiku continues to grow thanks to your efforts both here and in the globalised haiku arena. It has been a joy to read your poems here, there and everywhere.

Fourth Australian Haiku Anthology deadline reminder

Reminder: submissions to the Fourth Australian Haiku Anthology close on Thursday 1st December 2022. The editors – Lyn Reeves, Beverley George and Rob Scott – are seeking up to five of your best haiku or senryu, which may be unpublished or previously published. Submissions are welcomed by poets who are Australian by nationality or who currently reside here. See the previous post for further details and a link to the submission form.

Illawong Haiku Group Spring Meeting 2022

Tuesday 20th September

Mindful of the ever changing weather we met once again at Carol’s home. It was a delight to welcome Patricia back following a period of ill health. We were also looking forward to welcoming new recruit Joy. However, an unintended double booking meant we will have to wait until our next meeting.

Haiku @ The Oaks, Canberra

Wednesday 12 October 2022

After all the recent rain, it was a relief to meet on a dry day when we could enjoy lunch together at a table under the trees, albeit in the company of thronging currawongs with similar intentions! Four of us made it this month, Kathy Kituai, Glenys Ferguson, Marietta McGregor, and Jan Dobb. Thoughts were with our two missing companions, Gregory Piko and Hazel Hall.

Members’ News, October 2022

Dear members,
October will be a busy month for haiku happenings in Australia.

  • Registrations close on 5th October for Haiku Down Under 2022, which takes place on the weekend of October 7-9.
  • Entries for the John Bird Dreaming Award 2023 will open shortly, so stay tuned for details.
