Dear members,
October will be a busy month for haiku happenings in Australia.
- Submissions have opened for the Fourth Australian Haiku Anthology, to be edited by Lyn Reeves, Beverley George and Rob Scott.
- Registrations close on 5th October for Haiku Down Under 2022, which takes place on the weekend of October 7-9.
- Echidna Tracks is calling for submissions for Issue 10 throughout October.
- Entries for the John Bird Dreaming Award 2023 will open shortly, so stay tuned for details.
Portarlington September Meeting
While the rain is keeping our gardens and surrounding countryside lovely and green, it is playing havoc with our intentions to meet outdoors for our seasonal face to face catch-up. The Portarlington Golf Club became our venue, and just as well. It poured.

White Pebbles spring meeting was once again held at the Edogawa Commemorative Japanese Gardens and Regional Gallery, West Gosford. Present were Beverley George (convenor), Marilyn Humbert, Kent Robinson, Michael Thorley, Colleen Keating, Verna Rieschild and Gwen Bitti. First order of business, a casual catch-up over a hot beverage.

The birds, the blossoms and new spring sunshine—the perfect backdrop as we came together for Haiku @ The Oaks. It was a mini-meeting this time, as three of us found themselves unable to attend. We missed Hazel Hall, Marietta McGregor and Kathy Kituai. With them much in mind, the remaining three—Glenys Ferguson, Gregory Piko and Jan Dobb—enjoyed a relaxed exchange of things haiku and literary.

Once again health problems of some of our older poets limited travelling further afield, and once again the Cloudcatcher winter ginko for 2022 was held at the Alstonville home of Quendryth Young. There were five poets in attendance, with three others joining us in virtual participation from their own homes.
