I really enjoyed the mood and interplay of light suggested in this haiku. It works very well with the image and sets the scene to explore the different layers in the haiku and the B&W image. There is also a clever use of language and ‘falling light’ and ‘blurred patterns’ capture the feeling right away and draw one into the scene. Bindii Japanese Genre Poetry Group: 1 April Ginko in the Adelaide Botanic Gardens

On a beautiful autumn day, seven members of the Bindii Japanese Genre Poetry Group met for a ginko in the Adelaide Botanic Gardens. Adelaide Botanic Gardens

We gathered at the Simpson Kiosk near the Main Lake at 11 am. The morning had a real taste of the coolness of autumn, and members remarked on the number of magpies they had seen while getting to the meeting place.

The Autumn Australian Haiku Society Haiga Kukai is now open for entries. We would like to invite poets to send one haiku per image until 27th March. The winning haiku will be displayed on the AHS website.

Please note that if more than one haiku per image is submitted by any individual, only the first haiku sent will be considered.

Submissions will only be accepted if entered in the comments section.

By entering the competition, entrants agree to make their haiku available for use on the AHS website, although the copyright will remain with the author.

No correspondence will be entered into regarding winning entries.

AHS Autumn Haiga Kukai: Call for Submissions

The Australian Haiku Society is delighted to announce that it will be holding a Haiga Kukai on the autumn equinox 2017. Two images by Ron Moss will be displayed on the AHS website from 20th March and poets are invited to submit one previously unpublished haiku inspired by each image from that time until 27th March. Ron will then select the winning haiku which will be displayed on the AHS website.

Haiku in Lobethal 5th March 2017

“Words” Seeing, Listening, Feeling

As part of our Adelaide Fringe exhibition incorporating the visual arts, spoken word and performance art, members of Haiku Bindii were invited to feature in a special Haiku Day on Sunday March 5th.

The exhibition has invited artists to respond to text either of their own or in collaboration with poets and writers. This has eventuated in over 100 pieces of art being displayed in the Old Onkaparinga Woollen Mill in Lobethal. The exhibition will run from 11am- 4pm Saturdays and Sundays until March 19th. Report on the Haiku Workshop at Lobethal Woollen Mill: 5 March 2017

The workshop was presented by Julia Wakefield, who has provided the following report:

I was invited by Anne Griffiths to conduct a one hour workshop on the art of writing haiku at the h.ART Spoken words Exhibition at Lobethal Woollen Mill on March 5 2017.

This was followed by a reading by Bindii members: Maeve Archibald, Lynette Arden, Jill Gower and Belinda Broughton.
