Four members were present at our Winter meeting held once again in the café at Hazelhurst Regional Gallery and Arts Centre at Gymea. We opted to postpone our plans to head to the city until Spring when the weather will be more favourable for an outdoor ginko. After two indoor meetings we will be ready to break out and seek further inspiration for our writing.

When we first arrived at ‘coffee hour’ it was very noisy so we adjusted our meeting schedule and once the rush hour was over we moved to a quieter corner position and carried on.

Illawong Haiku Group – Winter Meeting 2019

Tuesday 25^th June, 10.00am to 1.00pm approximately

Hazelhurst Regional Gallery and Art Centre, Gymea

We will meet near the cafe at 10am for morning tea. Those who wish to share lunch afterwards can make an executive decision as to where.

One of the exercises we will be working on is a group submission in response to the request by the Australian Haiku Society for Featured Haiku commentaries.

Hopefully time will allow us to observe the current exhibition ‘Rococolonial’ featuring in the Gallery.

It is sometimes said that bigger is better but at our first meeting for 2019 it must be said that is not always the case. While unfortunately three of our members Barbara, Gavin and Lana were unable to attend it allowed our small group to spend more time on all things ‘haiku’.

It was originally planned that our meeting be held outdoors at Burnum Burnum Sanctuary, Woronora. However, due to the unpredictable weather it was decided to meet at the very pleasant alternative Hazelhurst Regional Gallery and Arts Centre at Gymea.

The Summer meeting of Illawong Haiku Group was held on Tuesday 11^th December at Club York in Sydney which Gavin kindly arranged for us. Tuesday 2nd October

Joseph Banks Native Plants Reserve at Kareela proved a good choice to hold our Spring Ginko. The perfect weather allowed us to observe the native plants at their best.

Several Gymea lilies stood straight and tall and in full flower to greet us at the car park entrance. As we meandered down the curved pathway to seek out a suitable table we passed a spectacular bed of pink and white paper daisies, native orchids of various size and colour, kangaroo paws and numerous species of callistemon and grevillea.
