Welcome to the annual celebration of Australian footy and haiku!

Calling all haiku poets from every nook and cranny on the planet to participate in the Annual AFL Grand Final Haiku Kukai for 2024. This has become a much loved event, now running for over a decade! The one day of the year when haiku poets, expert and novice, footy fan or critic, turn their Zen minds to the rip-roaring, white-knuckle ride of a footy match to produce a live haiku call of the AFL Grand Final.

Fringe Myrtles Haiku Meeting, July 2021

After a brief frolic in the sun, the Fringe Myrtles were back in lockdown courtesy of the wildfire Delta variant that is spreading like….well, wildfire.

In attendance, we had Janet Howie, Robyn Cairns, Liv Saint-James, Louise Hopewell, Marisa Fazio, Rob Scott, Madhuri Pillai, Jennifer Sutherland and Michael Dylan Welch, who squeezed us into his busy schedule from Seattle.

Fringe Myrtles Haiku Meeting, May 2021

Finally, after 1 year, 5 months and 17 days (534 days!) the Fringe Myrtles were able to kiss Zoom meetings goodbye and meet toe-to-toe at the glorious Melbourne Botanical Gardens. You could not wipe the smile from our faces as we gathered along with throngs of other sun-seeking Melbournians on a glorious autumn afternoon at the Tea House Terrace, situated opposite the Ornamental Lake. It was like a dream.
