Fringe Myrtles Haiku Meeting, February 2021

The Fringe Myrtles welcomed the new year at our first meeting for 2021 held on the last day of February. It was hoped that the group could meet face-to-face for the first time in almost a year, but due to the recent, sudden and unexpected lockdown, we were once again forced indoors. Fingers-crossed, we can be in each other’s physical company soon.

Launch of Bushfire Moon

On the 24th March, in the beautiful surrounds of the Allport Library in Hobart, I had the honour of launching Ron Moss’s recent book, Bushfire Moon, with the following words:

I first met Ron about seventeen years ago when his friend Ross Coward brought him along to a meeting of the then recently formed haiku group, Watersmeet. I remember sitting around the long table in the Salamanca Arts Centre meeting room. We had each brought along an object from nature as a prompt for writing, and when it came to sharing our jottings I was struck by the detailed observation and insight in the pieces Ron read out. Report on Bindii Meeting 4 June

Bindii Japanese Genre Poetry Group met on Saturday 4th June 2016 from 12 to 2pm at the Box Factory.

Present: Members Sara Abend-Sims, Lyn Arden, Lee Bentley, Dawn Colsey, Margaret Dingle, Julia Wakefield-Houghton.
Welcome: to new prospective member Pauline Smith.

Informal presentations on the subject of haibun were made by Lyn and Julia. We all read out haibun from examples found in various publications by members, and then workshopped some by Sara, Julia, Lyn, and haiku by Pauline, Margaret and Dawn.

The meeting closed at 2pm.
Next meeting: Saturday 6th August at 12 for 12.30.
