Bindii Japanese Genre Poetry Group: 1 April Ginko in the Adelaide Botanic Gardens

On a beautiful autumn day, seven members of the Bindii Japanese Genre Poetry Group met for a ginko in the Adelaide Botanic Gardens. Adelaide Botanic Gardens

We gathered at the Simpson Kiosk near the Main Lake at 11 am. The morning had a real taste of the coolness of autumn, and members remarked on the number of magpies they had seen while getting to the meeting place.

A number of Australian poets were recognised in various competitions during this last month including Cynthia Rowe and Madhuri Pillai who were Runners Up in the Golden Haiku Contest with:

Red Dragonflies’ Autumn Meeting, 2017

The Red Dragonflies’ first meeting of the year was held on a particularly wet and blustery day on 18th March at Vanessa Proctor’s home. Four members were present: Barbara Fisher, Beverley George, Vanessa Proctor and Cynthia Rowe. Bowerbird Tanka Group meeting #16 March 11, 2017

The 16th Bowerbird Tanka Group Meeting was a lively one, enhanced by David Terelinck’s presentation on combining tanka with photographic art. A report by Carmel Summers and appraisals of favourite tanka presented by Dy Andreasen, Carol Judkins and Catherine Smith are available here. Carmel’s report includes information on the activities of other tanka groups. This shared information is included in every Bowerbird meeting.

Mari Warabiny Have-A-Go Haiku Fun Day

On Sunday 19th March, Tash Adams from Mari Warabiny hosted a “Have a go” Haiku stand at the 1000 Paper Cranes Community Picnic and Fun Day.

Red Kelpie Haiku Group Meeting #11

On Sunday March 19th, four RKHG members met at the Visitors’ Centre of the Melbourne Botanic Gardens for our autumn meeting and to welcome Takanori Hayakawa, our newest Red Kelpie Haiku Group member. We all made our way to a shady spot not far from Nymphaea Lily Lake, close to where we held our December meeting. Now that it’s autumn, the waterlilies had ceased blooming but we noted bright little yellow flowers of some kind of water plant as we passed the lake. Purple cosmos at their full height were swaying in a soft morning breeze. The sky was a clear bright blue, without even a trace of cloud, as is typical of Melbourne’s autumns, but the temperature this year was notably higher than usual, reaching the mid-thirties. Marking the Moment – workshop

Capture and record a moment from nature through haiku and mark making to create a visual expression of a sensory experience. Join poet Lyn Reeves and local artist Desiree Fitzgibbon for walking and observation in the stunning environment of Okines Beach.

At the end of this workshop we will have uncovered the features of the brief nature poem and composed our own haiku and brush work images depicting a special moment in time on a handmade paper scroll. Continue reading “Marking the Moment – workshop”

Autumn AHS Haiga Kukai: Seasonal

The Autumn Australian Haiku Society Haiga Kukai is now open for entries. We would like to invite poets to send one haiku per image until 27th March. The winning haiku will be displayed on the AHS website.

Please note that if more than one haiku per image is submitted by any individual, only the first haiku sent will be considered.

Submissions will only be accepted if entered in the comments section.

By entering the competition, entrants agree to make their haiku available for use on the AHS website, although the copyright will remain with the author.

No correspondence will be entered into regarding winning entries.
