A small group of the Red Dragonflies met on Saturday 7th September: Vanessa Proctor, Barbara Fisher and Beverley George and newbie me, Wanda Amos down from Old Bar. In the leafy suburb of Pymble, Vanessa’s house was the meeting place and the trees swirled around us on that not so warm Spring day.

Spring Equinox Haiku String
The Australian Haiku Society welcomes contributions from haiku poets worldwide to the AHS Spring Equinox Haiku String 2019.
We will be holding a Haiku String during the day of the Southern Hemisphere Spring Equinox, which occurs in Australia on Monday, 23rd September, 2019. The String will remain open for contributions until Wednesday 25th September to accommodate international poets who may wish to take part. Haiku Readings at the Sydney Cherry Blossom Festival, 2019
On Thursday 22nd August, a mild and rather blustery day, four haiku poets gathered at the Auburn Botanic Gardens to represent the AHS at the 2019 Sydney Cherry Blossom Festival. Reading haiku were Vanessa Proctor, Carol Reynolds, Margaret Ruckert and Willem Tibben.

Spring Equinox Haiku String
Spring is definitely making its way back into the garden and into the activities of a whole host of insects, animals and birds. The Spring Equinox falls on September 23rd in the Southern Hemisphere this year and to celebrate, the Australian Haiku Society will host a Haiku String on and around that date. Everyone is invited to participate and we look forward to your offerings. A submission form will be made available on the website at the time of the equinox. More information will be posted to the website soon including the announcement of a theme.

Report of August 24 Bindii meeting.
Five of us met at the State Library for a two-hour discussion and critique session. Members present were Julia Wakefield, Lynette Arden, Maeve Archibald. We had a apologies from Dawn Colsey, Marilyn Linn, Margaret Fensom, Jill Gower and Athena Zaknic.
We had two new potential members, Steve Wigg and Stella Damarjati. Steve drew our attention to the work of Richard Gilbert, who wrote ‘The Disjunctive Dragonfly’ http://research.gendaihaiku.com/dragonfly/DisjunctiveDragonfly.htm and the poetry of Eve Luckring http://www.eveluckring.com/publications2015.html

Field of Stars – Book Launch
Field of Stars, a collection of haiku and senryu by Lyn Reeves, will be launched at Hobart Bookshop by Irene McGuire on Monday 9th September at 5.30 pm.
All are welcome to this free event.
